Songwriters' Association of Washington sponsors MASC to help songwriters receive recognition for their work and to further excellence in songwriting through educational programs. Gold Winners in individual categories compete for overall Grand, Second and Third Prizes. Cash, Music Industry Services, Memberships, Showcases, Winners' Compilation CD, Awards Gala Performances. Your entry fee, in addition to making you eligible for a $1000 Grand Prize, provides funding for many educational and networking opportunities in the art and business of songwriting. NEW this year, due to popular demand, past honorable mention status entries may be re-submitted to try for the Grand Prize, but we won’t accept cassettes. No matter how much you beg.
GUIDELINES All words pre-printed on this entry form (everything from page 1 to 4!) are considered part of the rules. If entering via electronic submission (online), you still agree to abide by all rules and regs listed here You may enter as many songs as you wish in each category. It is strongly suggested (mercy!) that your song be a max of 4 minutes, but this is not required. You may enter same song in more than one category. All songs remain the property of the songwriter(s).
PESKY RULES: ELIGIBILITY
- Each entry must have lyrics EXCEPT for the Instrumental Category. BUT: Instrumental category entries must include a 3 sentence description as to the artistic intent of the composition (this is essential)
- All entries must be received by August 10 regardless of postmark. We prefer online entries, but will accept multiple entries from the same artist on one home burned CD without other unrelated tracks. No cassettes.
- You must not have made more than $5,000 in publishing royalties in 2006 and cannot be employed as a staff writer for a publishing company nor have been paid for such services by a publishing company.
- Each entry must be wholly original (co-writers allowed) and shall not infringe on any copyrights or any other rights of any third party. Each entrant shall hold SAW harmless from and against claims inconsistent with these requirements.
- No composition or lyric may be entered that has been: (1) licensed; (2) placed under contract for commercial sale with any major label, publisher or other entity; or (3) selected in previous years' MASC contests as Gold, Silver, Finalist.
