From The Avenue”
Singer songwriter Laura Baron
brings a poets sensitivity to her writing and is known for her soulful
voice and jazz interpretation. "Winter Don't Own Me" a cut
on the CD won a 2007 Gold Award in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest in
the Jazz/Blues category.
Laura will be joined by the
outstanding blues guitarist Sol Creech as well as the dynamic Pat Quinn
on bass and the wonderful and witty Ron Goad on drums.

SAW Second
Saturday Open Mic
in Alexandria (Second Saturday of the month, 7:30pm-10:45pm)
The Lab at Convergence

Take the Shirlington exit off of I-395 and follow the signs to Quaker
Lane, then take the second left on Crestwood Drive. The Lab is the first
building on the left, with the entrance facing Crestwood Drive.
Cary Whaley and Jim Johnson have volunteered to be the principal host/coordinators
for this open mic series. Cary and Jim welcome additional coordinators
to the team. If you are interested, please contact them.
Sign-ups to play (first come-first served) begin at 7:00pm, with the
music starting at 7:30pm. Each performer is allotted two songs, with
originals encouraged. There will be an extra round of songs as time
permits--we try to vacate the room by 11:00pm.
There is a snack bar available with snacks and drinks for $1. Donations
of food or money are welcome. This is a family friendly venue, so alcohol
is not permitted.

Whether
you're a musician or a listener or both, if you haven't visited this
great venue, you're in for a real treat. They have a large, inviting
sitting room with lots of comfy sofas, armchairs, and tables...and
because it's a separate room from the coffee grinders, milk steamers,
and refrigerators, there's nothing to get in the way of an evening
of great music! Right now, they are hosting a monthly open mic as
well as booking performances for Saturday evenings and some Fridays
and Sundays as well. Here are the details...
OPEN MIC: Alexandria-based singer/songwriter Mark Austin will be hosting
a SAW-sponsored open mic. Great sound and a great listening room are
guaranteed (a uality PA with 2 mics and 2 instrument channels). Sign-up
begins at 6:45 for 15 minute slots. For questions, or to reserve a

BOOKING: Management is booking performances for live music on Friday

ABOUT
CAMERON PERKS: Cameron Perks (www.cameronperks.com) is located next
to Ben Brenman Park on the main road of Cameron Station in Alexandria,
VA (near Duke Street and 395). It's the only gourmet coffee shop within
a three-mile radius. The establishment is over 2,000 sq feet, including
high ceilings, and a separate room for music events. They pride themselves
on the atmosphere of soft couches, tables/chairs, free Wi-fi, and
wraparound windows. Because they try to appeal to all, they provide
an art gallery for local artists to feature their work with their
art hanging system, and free live music every Saturday night, and
some Friday and Sunday nights to support local singer/songwriters.

The SAW – West Market Concert Series was founded to provide performance
opportunities for SAW’s best artists and monthly entertainment
offerings for West Market residents. SAW-WM Concert Series will usually
be on the first Sundays every three months (on a quarterly basis.)
